Cuba - Havana, Vinales, Cienfuegos and Trinidad

Just back from a one week trip in Cuba. I visited four cities - Havana, Vinales, Cienfuegos and Trinidad.

For those of you who’s interested in going to Cuba for a visit, here’re some tips. Cuba is not cheap to visit, please prepare AT LEAST 500 euros cash per week for dining, transportation and random shopping. (Hotels and flights are not included👋). It’s possible to find cheap and nice food and drink places that local people go and you’ll find it’s 10-20 times cheaper. Wifi cards are 1 dollar per hour at some hotels but you’ll find places selling at 2 - 4 dollars... Trinidad is a must visit town. It’s so so so pretty and it preserves really well. It’s 5-6 hours by car from Havana and the transportation by car can range from 25 - to 40 dollars one way per person. I had a random talk with my driver, he complained about how expensive to live even for locals. He told me a vintage car like his costs 30000 dollars. There’re a lot Chinese cars on the street and he said a Chinese car can cost 70000 dollars!!!!! A normal person makes 10 - 40 dollars per month doing government jobs. It can be hard to afford a lot of things so many of them take a second job making money from foreign tourists. And last but not least, it’s very safe in Cuba. The people is good.

Puebla Mexico

Hola! It's been a long time since my last post. I didn't travel much in 2017 because I was settling down in a new city and starting a new job. In 2018, I will resume my traveling and my blog posts!

My first trip in 2018 is Mexico City and Puebla. This post I want to talk about just Puebla city and a near by city Cholula. Before I came, I saw many beautiful pics on Instagram of Puebla. But I found this place more amazing when I really came and walked around in the city.

Puebla city is an old Spanish colonial time city. The historic center part of the city is full of Spanish styles. The city structure is just like another European town with old Spanish style architectures, fountains, statues, beautiful churches and cathedrals. The center square has buildings with arches as market places and it even has a Galleria on one side of the square.

Porto Portugal's Mercado do Balhao

Porto is a city full of surprises. Nice little shops, good new restaurants, great seafood, nice people, nice sunshine, wine cellars, great view. I spent four days in Porto and surprisingly I didn't feel bored at all!

Bolhao market is a must see place in the city!! It's a more than 150 year old local market in the center of the city. It's THE everyday market place for the locals (not just for tourists). You can literally find everything in this market and the seafood and meat can be with the best quality in town. And several shops are the meat/ham/seafood suppliers for many restaurants in the city.

Walking through the market place, I can really picture myself retiring here and shop at this market everyday :)

Hainanese Chicken Rice Addiction after Singapore Trip

Hainanese chicken rice is a south China and south east Asia traditional dish. It originated from Hainan island in China and it was used to be called "Wenchang Chicken". The chicken is boiled with some seasoning and the tricky part is the rice. Unlike regular plain steamed rice, the rice for Hainanese chicken is always refered to as "oily rice". Before steaming, the rice should be stir fried with ginger and green onion. After that, pour the chicken fat oil on the surface of the boiled broth and some chicken broth into the rice to steam. In this way, the rice is very flavourful and it makes a great company for the light flavoured chicken.

If you are in Singapore, try one of the most famous Hainanese chicken rice at Tiantian in Maxwell food center at Chinatown. If you are short of time, it's very easy to find this traditional dish in all the hawker centers, in the airport and on the streets. When eating, don't forget to order a glass of healthy traditional beverage -- barley water!

Homemade first try :)
